A good smile makes you FEEL better!

It’s safe to say the pandemic has impacted every one of us in some unfortunate way, yet dental and orthodontic offices across the country are busier than ever! How could that be?

After all the twists and turns Covid has presented, people are looking for a way to bring back positivity, and what better way than through an amazing smile? Here, I’ve listed some positive things a smile can do for you:

1. Reduces Stress Research shows that a smile actually relieves stress by releasing neurotransmitters in the brain, and these chemical messengers can affect your state of mind. Dopamine controls a person’s emotional responses by lowering blood pressure. Endorphins are our bodies’ natural painkillers, and serotonin acts as an antidepressant.

2. Improves Self-Esteem Generally, individuals with crooked or dark-colored teeth don’t tend to smile as much. They are also less likely to be confidentduring conversations and miss out on memory-making experiences. The No. 1 reason patients tell me they’re interested in orthodontic treatment is because they want to improve their self-confidence.

3. Connects People It has been said that a smile is a universal language, and it’s true! A smile helps other people feel included and makes you more ap-proachable. In essence, we can feel another person’s positivity when we see them smile.

4. Provides a More Youthful Appearance It’s true that it takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown. This means frowning can contribute to facial wrinkles. Also, straight, whiter teeth add light and glow to a person’s face.
