ellenJAY: the Dessert Table Trend
One of the biggest trends this boutique bakery has seen in the past year is the focus on smaller cakes paired with a dessert table. And with a plethora of dessert options such as themed sugar cookies, buttercream sammies, and lemon or vanilla teacake cookies, no one does dessert tables for a wedding better than ellenJAY. When it comes to the centerpiece, the cake of course, ellenJAY offers a wide variety of delicious flavors to choose from such as cookie dough, red velvet, Italian cream, cookies n’ cream, and their best selling flavor amongst brides – sweet potato.
One recent bride, Ellie Metz, opted for ellenJAY’s treats for her November 1st “Day of the Dead/Carnival” themed wedding. “What’s cool about Ellie’s wedding is that it was non-traditional and pretty cutting edge. She chose a two-tiered wedding cake in soft gray with gold leaf details. She also added pops of color with petite cakes and cupcakes,” shares ellenJAY. Ellie decided on sweet potato with cinnamon cream cheese filling and iced in Vanilla American buttercream for her main cake while selecting three other flavors, Confetti, Cotton Candy, and ellanJAY Birthday, to be included in a special cake walk for their guests. As for working with ellenJAY, Ellie says, “From the moment I walked into ellenJAY for my tasting, I immediately felt at home with these women. Lauren, Jennifer, and their fantastic team understood my vision and were committed to keeping my wedding the slightly offbeat celebration it was. They made my sweet dreams come true with an astounding cake table. My husband and I cannot wait to celebrate our first anniversary with them next year!"
Another bride who fully demonstrated ellenJAY’s dessert table trend is bride Trish Pfeffer who married Andy Rezek on March 30th of last year. Trish and Andy chose a central two-tiered vanilla and lemon curd filling cake which was surrounded by an opulent table of sweets consisting of: Hand-decorated sugar cookies shaped like wedding dresses, wedding cakes and bouquets, cake pops in both vanilla and chocolate, mini Peanut Butter Sammies with peanut butter cream cheese, red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese Icing, and lemon and vanilla Teacakes. “EllenJAY epitomized exactly what we wanted for our wedding. Everything was not only delicious beyond expectation, but also perfectly represented the simply beautiful elegance we were hoping for! Jennifer and Lauren are caring professionals whom everyone should have the honor of working with,” says bride Trish.

Couture Cakes: The Modern Bride
Tara Woolsey of Couture Cakes in Daphne is no stranger to the event cake scene. Clients all over the Bay Area have fallen for her breathtaking, delicious wedding cakes and fun, quirky groom cakes since she first opened up shop back in 2009. Simply peruse any of her stunning creations and you will be quick to notice her wide range of artistry. In keeping with what’s trending, Tara notes that she has seen many of her brides opting for more modern takes on the traditional wedding cake by adding pops of color, textured icing, and even metallics such as rose and yellow gold. “Of course, the ‘naked’ cakes are still very popular with brides, as well as the incorporation of fresh florals as decorations for the cake,” Tara shares. “However, recently I have seen brides bringing in brighter and bolder flowers to really bring their cake to life, though I always suggest softening the colors up a little so the cake still has a romantic feel while still being more modern,” she adds. But if classic cakes are more your style, Tara and her team will be more than happy to design the perfect cake for you. No matter your vision, selecting a cake from Couture Cakes will be the easiest part of planning your dream wedding – from the initial tasting and design meeting, all the way up to cutting a piece on the big day.
