Outliner Studio’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. It all began in a small one-room studio that has expanded to a sprawling 2,500-square-foot beautiful space, housing a team of three Permanent Makeup (PMU) Artists, a PMU Training Center, Permanent Makeup Supplies, and so much more. The new space, dreamed up by owner, Mary Emily Davidson, and brought to life by interior designer, Trini Bryant, exudes a modern, elegant, and inviting aura, reflecting the diversity of the women they serve.
With the goal of helping women wake up looking made up, the benefits of PMU are self-explanatory yet, for some, the term ”permanent makeup” can be intimidating. “Building trust about permanent makeup has been a journey filled with patience, sharing real-life results, and referrals from satisfied clients, doctors, and individuals who have witnessed our work,” says Mary Emily, “Now our clients truly trust our process!” Outliner Studio specializes in services like Lip Blushing, Permanent Brows, and Permanent Eyeliner, all of which can enhance one’s natural beauty.
Understanding that all shortcuts are welcome as women often find themselves adding lip color or lining their brows at stop lights only to have it slide off in the humidity, permanent makeup by definition is also known as permanent cosmetics, derma-pigmentation, micro-pigmentation, microshading, and cosmetic tattooing. It is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eye-lining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids. And while the word tattoo is a bit unnerving for many, it is nothing like the process as an actual tattoo since the pigments, technique and even tools are different - and a bonus is that it is relatively pain free. The true area of focus regarding getting the results you seek should be the training and artistic eye of the professional you choose. After all, it is an art form requiring extensive knowledge of technique, color theory, science and the understanding of skin. and it should be noted that Mary Emily is also a highly-trained and talented painter.
The artists at Outliner Studio focus on technique, ensuring that results heal beautifully. “Many artists and inexperienced PMU artists work with techniques that saturate too much and work too deep into the skin which can create undesirable results, scar tissue or even hair loss,” shared Mary Emily. “Our Permanent Makeup Training program focuses on providing the most extensive information around about the tools, equipment, color theory, skin and technique! We work relentlessly on developing the proper technique.” Since incredible permanent makeup also requires knowledge of equipment, color science, and a non-invasive technique.
With exponential growth, they now offer extensive training programs for those eager to learn the artform that includes Permanent Makeup Primary Training which is one of the most extensive and longest Permanent Makeup Training programs in the entire country. They also offer Advanced Eyeliner Training and 2D and 3D Areola Training. In addition to Mary Emily, their team now includes two talented Permanent Makeup Artists - Katie Vogtner and Carson Bates. In addition to creating the most natural and prettiest lips and brows, they’ve ventured into Scalp Micropigmentation for both women and men. A solution for hair loss and thinning which camouflages the lost area of hair with the appearance of hair follicles through the art of micropigmentation (SMP), this is an exciting treatment that’s quickly becoming very popular for those seeking scalp coverage but don’t want to undergo some of the more costly and invasive options available or fool with scalp powders.
Notably, Outliner Studio is not just about makeup; it’s about restoring confidence and dignity. The “Boob” Wall serves as a tribute to the strength of women who have battled breast cancer. Each October they host the “Revive and Thrive” Event. “For the past four years, we have provided free 2D and 3D Areola Restoration for breast cancer survivors who have undergone mastectomy at this event. We also provide free Permanent Brows for those who have lost them due to cancer, chemotherapy or radiation. The first year in our new space, we are so excited and everyone is welcome to register for an appointment during this all-day event on October 20! Prepare to be pampered, uplifted, and spoiled! We are also teaching our Ultra Realistic 3D Areola Class in October to train other Permanent Makeup Artists this incredible art as it’s not uncommon for women to lose their nipples when having a mastectomy.”
Outliner Studio caters to both women and men, with clients seeking natural cosmetic enhancements, scar camouflage for various injuries or surgical scars, vitiligo camouflage, and stretch mark treatments. Clearly the journey of Outliner Studio is far from over as it is continuously expanding its online support system for aspiring Permanent Makeup Artists around the country. With various resources to learn the craft and build successful beauty businesses of their own, it is Mary Emily’s greatest joy to empower others to achieve their dreams.
Obviously Outliner Studio stands as a beacon of innovation, artistry, and empowerment, and with Mary Emily at the helm, they will continue to grow, evolve, and transform lives. A true woman’s woman, Mary Emily is one to watch and let’s face it, she radiates what we’d all like to see in the mirror.
