Laina & Daniel McDonald

Laina and Daniel McDonald’s love story began amidst one of the most challenging times in recent history—the 2010 BP Oil Spill. The couple met in the aftermath of the disaster and within three months, their connection was undeniable, leading to an engagement that would be the foundation of a lifetime of love and partnership. A year after their wedding, they moved to Mobile, which has been their home ever since. They now they have a daughter, Holland, who is eight.

In 2014, Laina embarked on an entrepreneurial journey that would transform the landscape of prenatal care on the Gulf Coast. She founded Sneak-A-Peek Prenatal Imaging in Mobile, AL—the first elective ultrasound studio in the region. “We turned the typical every day ultrasound into an ultrasound experience that could be shared with family and friends in a comfortable relaxing environment,” says Laina. “The most rewarding part of my job is meeting our excited parents. Being able to share this once in a lifetime experience with them is truly fulfilling.” Over the past decade, Sneak-A-Peek has flourished, expanding to include a baby boutique, gift shop, maternity clothing, early gender blood tests, and cutting-edge 8K photo rendering technology.

Daniel McDonald, Laina’s steadfast partner, brings his own brand of excellence to their family’s dynamic. Defined by character, Daniel shares, “Growing up, sports were all I knew. I trained nearly every day to reach my goal of becoming a professional athlete which I achieved in 2003 when I became a part of the Major League Baseball Organization with the Seattle Mariners. However, when a car wreck led to the end of my professional baseball dreams, I used this negative event to provide positive leadership daily.”

Now employed by Nestle Purina Engineering, Daniel serves as a senior expert in construction safety technical compliance and program management for North America. His role involves extensive travel, ensuring compliance and fostering a culture of safety across the continent. “What I love most about my job is that I have the opportunity to coach, guide, and mentor thousands of people while having an everlasting impact that could change their lives,” says Daniel.

For the McDonalds, life on the Gulf Coast is a celebration of everything they love about the South—sweet southern hospitality, proximity to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and an abundance of fresh, delicious seafood. “We love our life here,” they both agree.

Laina’s Hidden Talent: “I can sing! I’ve sung for sporting events, weddings, and church!”

Fun Fact About Daniel: “I am a published author.”

Wilson A. Snell

Wilson A. Snell, a Mobile native, has had a pivotal role in the Gulf Coast’s vibrant culinary scene through his role at Cooper Restaurants. As Assistant Vice President, Wilson oversees training and operations for some of the most beloved dining establishments in the area, ensuring that guests experience legendary service and exceptional food.

His responsibilities are vast, spanning from resolving raccoon encounters at BLUEGILL, mingling with travelers at Felix’s, to orchestrating Mardi Gras celebrations at Ruth’s Chris. A hands-on leader, Wilson’s accessibility to his team is paramount, fostering a culture where everyone from general managers to food runners feels supported. “It might be to fix a problem or to share an idea, we are here to support our team that make it all happen,” he tells us.

Wilson’s enthusiasm for his work is contagious. He shares, “David Cooper, our owner, always says we’re in the hospitality industry, not just the restaurant business. We don’t just sell food and wine; we romance it, make it fun, and elevate it to high theater.” Working alongside industry legends like Chef Howard Grayson and Ann Levine, Wilson relishes the daily learning opportunities and the dynamic environment that keeps him energized. “I work with the best in Mobile. I like to say that everyday is my first day and that I learn something new every day from our team.”

Born in Penza, Russia, and adopted as an infant, Wilson’s journey to Mobile has shaped his resilient and adventurous spirit. An avid traveler, he cherishes experiences like horseback riding in Utah and exploring Glacier National Park. With a penchant for home improvement and a knack for staying busy, Wilson never shies away from getting his hands dirty.

As Mobile experiences growth, Wilson is hopeful for its future. “I believe once brick and mortar progress are made, it will continue to bring opportunities for more to move here and build Mobile into its promising future.”

Words He Lives By: “If you do not like something then change it, but if you cannot change it, change your attitude.”

His Best Friends Describe Him As: “Most of them will say that I am a little crazy, I never run out of energy, but  also act like an 80-year-old man.”

Martha Elizabeth Massey

Martha Elizabeth Massey has always loved the Gulf Coast. Splitting her childhood between Birmingham and Fairhope, Martha and her family ultimately made the Eastern Shore home when she was 11-years-old. After meeting her husband Jamie Massey Jr. at The University of Alabama and spending a few years in Birmingham, the pull of the coast drew them back with their daughter Eloise in tow.

As a a full-time Realtor with Dodson Real Estate Group, Martha services her buyers and sellers from Spanish Fort to Orange Beach. Because no two days are alike, Martha loves what she does and explains, “One day I might be sourcing the dreamiest waterfront property for a family to build their dreams on and the next I’m walking an investor through a 5-acre property complete with a resident pot belly pig via FaceTime! I also love using my interior design expertise to help buyers and sellers see the potential in a property.”

A true family business, Martha’s mother is a co-owner and broker, her brother is recently licensed, and her retired father lends his expertise when needed. “I’m extremely lucky to come from a family of entrepreneurs. My parents taught my siblings and I that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Most importantly though, they taught us to never stop living along the way. Wear the fancy dress, use the fine china, buy the Bay house in need of TLC, it’s worth it!” she shares.

Striving to be a role model for her daughter and grateful to her husband for always supporting her endeavors, Martha states, “Growing our incredible community by welcoming new faces and businesses is so important to me. These new residents bring a wealth of fresh ideas and concepts. I’m ecstatic to see them come to life in new shops, restaurants, and more. I haven’t ever had a client call me to list their house because they didn’t like it living here! If they must leave, they always tell me they’re coming back as soon as they can. Good views, good people, good food; what’s not too love?”

Guilty Pleasure: “I love anything true crime and ice-cold margaritas!”

Fun Fact: “I am an enneagram 4.”

Nathan Payne

Originally from Hartselle, AL., it was Nathan Payne’s wife, Chelsea, who eventually brought him home to the Bay Area. Both Auburn University graduates, Nathan and Chelsea first met as Camp War Eagle orientation leaders. After spending nearly a decade in the Midwest, an ideal job opportunity brought them to Chelsea’s hometown of Fairhope.

As the Director of the Thomas Hospital Foundation in Fairhope, Nathan leads fundraising efforts that significantly impact the hospital. His role is dynamic, involving everything from administrative meetings and donor engagement to planning charitable events. “No two days are ever the same,” he says, reflecting on the diversity of his responsibilities. “Leading an organization that allows people with a passion for generosity to fund life-changing developments at Thomas Hospital is an honor and a responsibility I deeply cherish.  Since the Foundation’s start in 1993, donor support has been pivotal to our growth, innovations in treatment options, and the modernization of our technology and facilities. Our donors’ philanthropy enables us to continually advance and serve our community with excellence.”

Nathan’s career and life path have been shaped by his willingness to embrace challenges. “Always being open to accepting challenging opportunities has propelled me forward,” he explains. This philosophy has led him to roles and experiences he never anticipated. “If you asked me after graduating college to map out where I’d be now, it’s impossible I would have predicted the way my career has developed. A big part of what brought me here is by saying, ‘yes.’”

Outside of work, Nathan has spent the past 17 years refereeing soccer at various levels, from youth leagues to professional matches. “Contrary to popular belief, many referees put in significant work to maintain their fitness and knowledge of the game – all to call the game fairly and correctly. While it might require a bit more effort than golfing or fishing, it’s nice having a hobby that pays you to run,” he laughs.

Favorite Thing About The Gulf Coast: “I love being able to drive to the beach for the day—being this close to it is not something we take for granted!”

Embarrassing Moment: “During the Foundation’s recent golf tournament, the new on-cart GPS stopped the cart and made us reverse back to the cart path. I may have backed into one of the oak trees in front of a group of golfers!”

Brooks & Hon Beck

Together for 12 years and the parents of Kailee and Jovi, realtors Hon and Brooks Beck serve Mobile and Baldwin County and manage Real Estate Team Beck Properties. “We provide a team of agents that represent buyers and sellers for residential and commercial properties. We love to protect, educate, and help our clients make their dreams a reality. Especially those who may have thought it wasn’t possible,” Hon explains.

Recently, the couple was selected to join an organization of the best realtors in the U.S. and Canada, and to attend a conference in NYC to mastermind with the top one percent of realtors. “This was monumental as we’re now endorsed by Barbara Corcoran of “Shark Tank.” We get to collaborate with her team and Ryan Serhant from “Million Dollar Listing New York!” Brooks exclaims.

Making success look easy, their journey hasn’t been without struggle. “We lost our first born, Kai, after just having him for 18 days. Deciding to grind through our sorrow, we opened two nail salons and eventually sold them to dive into a new opportunity. Not afraid to take risks, we always bet on ourselves,” Brooks tells us.

With strong role models, Hon shares, “My parents had the courage to leave Vietnam to come to the U.S. and open their own gas stations and laundry mats while raising eight kids. They’ve shown me the meaning of perseverance.” As for his mother, Brooks shares, “The older I get, the more I realize what she was doing and why!”

Spending most days together, the couple prioritize dinner dates at restaurants like Pour Baby and Noja. With admiration, Brooks shares, “Hon has a way of attracting people to her. Her energy is so powerful!” Equally smitten Hon adds, “Brooks can be reserved, but he is one of the most genuine people I know!”

Because Baldwin County is the seventh fastest growing county in the country, they’ve helped people from places like Colorado and California settle here. “The best way to continue positive growth is to invest your money here!” Brooks exclaims.

Hon’s Fun Fact: “We are world champion pickle ball athletes. We have a weekly pickle ball game with friends, and we cannot seem to lose to them.... EVER!”

Brooks True Confession  “Once, and only once, Hon caught me eating a perfectly good cookie out of the kitchen trash can in the dark after everyone went to bed!”

Alicia Evans Jones, MD

When Alicia Evans Jones, MD, relocated to the Bay Area in 2022, she did so with a dual purpose: to support her husband, Joshua Jones, who had accepted the position of Youth Violence Prevention Coordinator with the city of Mobile, and to make a lasting impact in her own medical and entrepreneurial endeavors. As a family medicine physician at Franklin Primary Health Center and the founder of Ardor Scrubs, an e-commerce scrub boutique, Dr. Evans Jones has certainly fulfilled her mission.

At Franklin Primary Health Center, she treats patients of all ages, often caring for entire families. She finds fulfillment in women’s health and performing minor procedures such as skin biopsies and joint injections. Her evenings and weekends are spent nurturing her business, which offers stylish, comfortable, and affordable scrubs for women. “Working in an underinsured and uninsured area means I often meet patients at their lowest points. I love being able to restore hope and reassure them that someone cares. And, I am blessed to be a blessing,” Dr. Evans Jones shares.

Growing up, Dr. Evans Jones saw her parents raise a family of five on a single income without high school diplomas. Her father’s success as an entrepreneur despite these challenges inspired her own ventures. “Medicine and entrepreneurship are my calling,” she says. “I hope that by becoming a successful physician entrepreneur, others will see what I have accomplished and know that they can achieve even more.”

Living close to the beach brings Dr. Evans Jones immense joy. “The water is truly my happy place,” she shares. Beyond her professional life, she enjoys watching reality TV with a good glass of wine—a guilty pleasure that adds a touch of relaxation to her busy schedule.

Embarassing Moment: “I was wearing high heels at a huge medical conference coming down the stairs into the main atrium when my heel got caught on one of the stairs and I went tumbling. I’ve worn flats ever since.”

Alicia’s Role Model: “My mentor Dr. Karen Phelps, COL(R) made a huge impact on my development as a physician and young woman in general. She is one of the greatest physicians I know.”

Elizabeth Parnell & Corinna Hill

Corinna Hill and her sister, Elizabeth Parnell, are not only best friends, they also co-own Lilibet Bridal and Couture, an elegant boutique nestled in Downtown Mobile. “About five years ago, Corinna and I started talking about how much fun it would be to own a bridal boutique. We loved shopping for our own wedding gowns and knew that we could provide an incredible experience for brides! It’s been incredible seeing our dream come to life!” Elizabeth explains.

The boutique, which began with a focus on bridal gowns, has expanded to include cocktail and evening gowns. “When you walk into Lilibet, it’s clear to see that we gravitate towards clean, classic styles for the traditional southern bride. We carry lines from designers such as Monique Lhuillier, Modern Trousseau, Amsale, Eddy K, Jenny Yoo, Luna D’Miel, and Maggie Sottero. Many are customizable and allow our brides to change a gown to fit their vision. Focused on quality fabrics, the Mikados, duchess satins, jacquards, and lace options we carry have been meticulously chosen as they truly make the dress!” Corinna shares.

Contrary to popular belief, the sisters rarely encounter “bridezillas.” Instead, they are blessed with gracious, fun-loving brides who make their job a joy. Elizabeth adds, “My days are packed with appointments, pulling dresses, fitting brides, and making visions come to life. Behind the scenes, we can be found breaking down boxes, steaming dresses, and creating social media content.” Chiming in Corinna shares, “Some of our days end with a walk to Greer’s for a chocolate chip cookie!”

For Elizabeth, she says there is just something so special about being near the water. Atkinson Designs and offers everything from full service interior design to hourly consultations that can include furniture selection, custom furniture design, window treatments, paint color selection, renovation consultation, and more.

With an eye for design that ranges from traditional to modern, Drew is quick witted, charming, and a true southern gentleman. “It’s always exciting to navigate a client’s ideas and dreams, and then turn it into a reality they never could have imagined. I also have a photographic memory that allows me to recall every home detail. From framing a piece of handed-down generational art to creating custom window treatments, the smallest details matter. Even replacing lamp shades and area rugs can make a significant improvement. Also, whether we are enhancing a space to entertain guests or tackling a complete primary bedroom overhaul, it’s important to bring style and comfort together. Typically, a person’s home is the largest investment they’ll ever make, and I love the challenge of helping them ensure they are getting the best return on their investment.”

Ricardo Saavedra

Ricardo Saavedra is Mobile’s biggest fan. Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, most know him as the owner of Mexican food favorite, Bariachi Mexican Kitchen in midtown. “I moved to Mobile in 2010 for an opportunity with a telemarketing company at 23- years-old. Not knowing anything about Mobile, it was a challenge at first, but it quickly grew on me as the people are so polite, take the time to get to know you, love to have a good time, and there’s always a friend to make.”

Ready to plant his roots, he opened the restaurant with a small team, and shares, “We’ve been blessed with the best coworkers, and I’ve made so many friends just by serving them great authentic Mexican food. The support for local businesses is so important here, not just to the business owners, but also to the residents, and I haven’t been to another city that takes more pride in their local businesses.”

Married to Jody Kelly, the couple enjoys their six dogs and two cats and Ricardo prides himself in his relationships. “I’m a strong believer in cultivating relationships. By surrounding myself with people who guide, shape, and criticize my decisions with good intent, I’ve been able to maintain the values my parents, friends and family instilled in me.  It’s also resulted in a desire and the drive to do my best so that I can make them proud of me.”

As for giving back to the community, Ricardo adds, “Bariachi recently helped sponsor Krewe de Palooza, a fundraiser for Krewe de Rescue, a local dog rescue organization. I’m also looking forward to participating in a four-day, 399-mile relay run from Memphis to Mobile to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital this year.” In terms of the area’s growth, Ricardo says, “I hope Mobile keeps its hometown feel and that all newcomers feel as welcome as I did.”

With their three children, Paige Montgomery, Chelsey Smith, and Hunter Taubel, grown and with families of their own, Karen and Darrell enjoy nothing more than spending time with them and their seven grandchildren.

Looking for an employment opportunity 26 years ago, Karen never could have imagined she would find such a lasting and fulfilling job when she walked through the door at local favorite sea food restaurant, The Original Oyster House. Recently awarded “Employee of the Year,” Karen shares, “My job has always afforded me time with my children. And I’ve never stopped enjoying serving others. While I believe you are born to serve, you must have a servant’s heart to be successful. For example, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the same people weekly for many years and then not seeing them again. That’s when I pray so I can honor them and the small but meaningful relationship we shared. It’s hard for most people to imagine what you can gain serving the people of your community. I truly believe everyone should be a server,” Karen beams.

In addition to working with an incredible team, Karen adores life in the Bay Area, too. “I love snapper fishing, boating, and spending time at the beach. I think we sometimes take our home for granted, but we are blessed here with so much natural beauty. As a woman of faith, the best decision I ever made was accepting Jesus as my lord and savior. Even two of my children are pastors! A family passion, it has brought so much joy and peace from the Sunday lunches where we’d serve everybody and anybody to the times my husband opened our home to several kids in our youth group. Some had families and some did not, and we loved them like they were our own. I am truly blessed beyond measure,” Karen exclaims.

Interesting Expirience: “I was a navy “brat” and lived in Spain, Alaska, Texas, and Florida.”

Fun Fact: “I met my husband on a blind date!”

Philip Austin & Chris Menke

Philip Austin and Chris Menke are true partners. Having been married for two years, their 12-year journey is closely intertwined as co-owners of Hive Modern Home, a new, distinctive home furnishings store located in Fairhope.

A haven for unique décor, art, and gifts that embody their shared passion for beautiful spaces, Chris explains, “Prior to opening our store, we both worked in film and television until the strikes happened last year. I worked in production for 20 years and Philip worked in set dressing for 10 years. Owning our own store allows us to express our creativity and collaborate on ideas with each other and our clients.”

Chris and Philip’s enthusiasm for discovering fresh and unique products is evident in every corner of their store. Perfect for the coast, their goal is to inspire creativity and joy within our homes through the items they offer. Believing in the power of simple treasures, they find fulfillment in helping others appreciate the beauty in their surroundings. “We have fun finding things that are different and will make our customers feel special. Whether it’s a vase, a piece of art, drapes, rugs, lighting, or new furniture, everyone deserves something beautiful,” says Chris.

It all began while they were living in Atlanta and started looking for a second home nine years ago. “We traveled from New Orleans to Panama City, looking for a destination where we felt at home.  On a drive, I blurted out, ‘What about Mobile? We have friends there, it’s where you’re from, it’s beautiful and has a great sense of community.’  It was decided and a few months later we had completely rebuilt a historic home!  Raised on the Chesapeake Bay, Mobile Bay reminds me a lot of that area and I feel very at home here,” Chris shares.

Motivated by interpersonal dynamics, Philip shares, “How we treat each other and the words we choose hold immense significance in shaping relationships and fostering understanding. Additionally, I derive great joy from guiding others on the path to infusing beauty into their lives. Whether it’s through sharing simple treasures that evoke smiles or witnessing the breathtaking beauty of a sunset from a cherished spot, I find fulfillment in facilitating moments of serenity and appreciation for life’s wonders.”

As for those that have had the biggest impact on their lives, both Philip and Chris say it was each other. “Chris has had a profound impact on my life. He inspires me to strive for excellence and together we’ve achieved a lifelong dream of owning our own business in the home furnishings sector.” Chris adds, “We share a beautiful life and living in the Bay Area has shaped so much of our lives together,” Philip fondly shares.

Favorite Hobbies:

Chris: “I’m a sucker for wildlife. I could sit in my living room and watch the birds and lizards in our garden all day.”

Philip: “I enjoy researching things. Whether it’s scouting out ideal vacation destinations or exploring potential new products for our store, I’m constantly drawn to uncovering new information.”

Holly Saliski

Originally from Montgomery, Holly’s connection to the Bay Area started alongside her husband, Billy, when they attended college in Mobile. Holly attended South Alabama while Billy was at Spring Hill. And they always envisioned returning to the Bay Area before their children, Pately (10) and Lilly (5), grew up.

After relocating and with a longtime passion for fashion, Holly is the proud owner of Monkee’s of Fairhope, an upscale women’s boutique on Section Street in downtown Fairhope that boasts the perfect looks for Bay living. Interestingly, Monkee’s is a top fashion franchise with 60 locations, each independently owned and operated, and Holly’s boutique offers a personalized shopping experience that stands out in the community. “This is something I have always wanted to do since I was in middle school,” she tells us. “I started out wanting to be in the fashion industry and that turned into the dream of owning my own women’s clothing store.  I knew at a young age that fashion and styling was a way of expressing the artistic side of myself.”

Described as fun-loving, determined and one that puts family before anything, Holly is driven by her philosophy that everything happens for a reason. This belief guided her and Billy back to the Bay Area when they felt the timing was perfect to pursue her dreams. Now happily living her dream, Fairhope’s charm and community spirit make it a place she loves to call home. Holly enjoys spending time at the beach with her family, dining downtown, and participating in local activities.

Recently, Holly joined Impact 100, a charitable organization aimed at addressing community needs. She is excited to contribute and give back, learning more about opportunities to make a difference and helping to amplify the voices of those who need it most.

As Baldwin County experiences growth, Holly hopes the community retains its charm while continuing to attract tourism. She believes that Fairhope’s unique appeal will continue to draw people in, making it a thriving and dynamic place to live.

Faced with the various challenges a mom with a son in the military experiences, Mary Beth Bradley routinely rotates through the expected emotions that range from scared to proud. Born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and an Auburn University graduate, Mary Beth has been married to Tom for 35 years. Described as very proud parents, the couple has two sons; James, who is married to Mckenna, and Andrew, who is married to Abby. “James and Mckenna recently gave me my first grandbaby, Janie. I am obsessed and can’t get enough of her!” Mary Beth beams.

While her son Andrew is serving in the U.S. Army in Kuwait, keeping busy with her family and job helps Mary Beth stay positive. It also helps her to take her own advice that she frequently gives Andrew. “I tell him to count his blessings, not his problems or obstacles,” the always optimistic Mary Beth shares.

As a previous owner of Mobile’s Five Gold Monkeys, she is now an interior designer at Cindy Meador Interiors. Mary Beth adds, “Cindy has given me the opportunity to work on all types of projects from a funeral home in Louisiana, to local beach homes just down the road from our shop and office in Orange Beach. Amazing at what she does, Cindy has truly broadened my knowledge during our eight years together. Also, the incredible growth in the area has created such a wide range of opportunities for me to grow as a designer, I love my job!”

Mark Berte

Mark Berte, originally from Birmingham, found his way to the Bay Area when his wife, Leigh Ann Litwiller Berte, accepted a job offer from Spring Hill College. With his own work focused on reforming Alabama’s constitution statewide, the move was a seamless transition for their family.

Today, Mark serves as the executive director of the Alabama Coastal Foundation (ACF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving and protecting Alabama’s coastal environment. Founded three decades ago, ACF engages citizens and stakeholders through education and volunteer opportunities. Their mission is executed through various initiatives like the Oyster Shell Recycling program, the Good Life Bicycle Ride, the Sustainability Summit, and the Share the Beach sea turtle conservation program. “One of the best parts about my job is meeting new people and speaking with groups to help address our coastal challenges,” Mark shares. “I can safely say that over the past twelve years of serving as ACF’s executive director, every day is different!”

Under Mark’s collaborative leadership, ACF has received numerous accolades, including the Alabama Wildlife Federation Governor’s Conservation Award, Mobile Bay National Estuaries Program’s Stewardship Award, and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation’s Marine Environmental Leadership Award.

Living in the Bay Area, Mark enjoys the abundant outdoor activities such as beach walks, biking, tennis, kayaking, and boating. “But one of the best things I love about coastal Alabama is the variety and quality of our fresh seafood,” he proudly boasts.

As the Bay Area experiences rapid growth, Mark hopes for sustainable development that allows everyone to enjoy natural resources for generations to come. “The ACF focuses our efforts on eco-tourism and is part of the ‘Leave Only Footprints’ campaign that is led by the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. I always point people to our website (JoinACF.org) to learn about not only the three species of sea turtles that nest on our beaches, but also what people can do to help them and all our coastal creatures,” Mark shares.

Words He Lives By: “Be a leader, and a helper.”

How His Friends Would Describe Him: “Honest and optimistic, with a good sense of humor.”

Leah Garner

Mobile native, Leah Garner has come a long way from the bustling political scene of Montgomery to the charming streets of Fairhope. Having once worked alongside Governor Kay Ivey as her Communications Director, Leah is now the proud co-owner and general manager of Chatsworth Boutique located on Fairhope Avenue. “As a new retail business owner, I truly love my job,” she shares. “It was after losing a close friend and the subsequent pandemic, that I really reassessed my life and decided to chase after a dream of owning my own business. Owning a clothing store was always at the back of my mind, and I am so grateful I was able to make it a reality.”

At Chatsworth Boutique, Leah’s day is a tapestry of diverse tasks from opening and closing the store to buying, managing staff, and engaging with customers. Her boutique offers a curated selection of women’s and men’s apparel, gifts, accessories, and antiques that perfectly balance old world charm and our Coastal lifestyle. When she’s not on the store floor, Leah immerses herself in her communications consulting company.

Having grown up in Mobile, Leah has deep-rooted connections to the Bay Area. She fondly recalls childhood trips to Fairhope and Orange Beach, cherishing memories of shopping, brunches, and sun-soaked days. “Some of my best memories were made on the Coast and for the last 20 years, I’ve been living away. Sometimes, it takes coming back to make you realize how special it is to grow up here,” she fondly tells us. Leah’s favorite local haunts include Provision for breakfast, Thyme for burgers and cocktails, and the old-town downtown shopping area that embodies Fairhope’s unique charm.

As Fairhope experiences growth, Leah hopes the community will retain its small-town charm while welcoming newcomers. She believes that southern hospitality and the area’s unique culture are integral to its identity. “Growth isn’t to be feared—we can maintain our history and uniqueness while being welcoming to everyone,” she asserts.

Marianna Jordan & Emily Hoven

With dreams of becoming young entrepreneurs, Marianna Jordan and Emily Hoven are the owners and operators of the newly established Well Head Spa in downtown Fairhope and Birmingham. Bringing scalp health into focus, Emily explains, “Our scalp is a sponge, so it’s important to know its overall condition and what products to use to ensure the best health and hair. Our services stimulate collagen production, hair growth and blood flow to the scalp. Through our tools, we look closely at each client’s scalp on a monitor to assess and improve their scalp health through head steam and red-light therapy treatments. From unclogged pores to released toxins, people are amazed by the results! Plus, it’s a very luxurious and relaxing experience!”

Acknowledging scalp health is something often overlooked, they are not only proud to offer scalp analysis, treatments, massage, exfoliation, and stimulation treatments, but shampoo and deep conditioning, facials, and blow out and styling services, too. “I’m very passionate about a holistic lifestyle and being aware of the ingredients we put on our scalp is crucial. All the products we use are non-toxic, clean, and organic. When paired with our treatments, the outcomes are incredible as they optimize cell function and therefore improve hair growth and the quality of the hair,” Marianna adds.

Reaching best friend status as students at Spring Hill College, they realized they both had an entrepreneurial mindset from a young age. “At 12-years-old, I sold cheer bows I made and sold pecans and satsumas from my driveway. Raised by a single mom, I was taught to work hard for what I wanted,” Emily shares. Stating that she’s always been an entrepreneur at heart and not new to business ownership, Marianna adds, “We started Bay Bounce Event Rentals in 2022 and sold it in 2024. People have doubted us because we’re young, but I don’t think age matters — it’s now or never! Plus, my mom, Beatriz, is an immigrant and taught me bravery, determination, and the power of positive thinking. My father, Paul, has been successful in sales for 25 years and gives us great business advice!”

Both bursting with Eastern Shore pride, Marianna explains, “I would love to keep local businesses alive. Our community is built on small businesses and that’s what sets us apart and creates that feeling of home we all cherish. I love starting my mornings with a pink lotus matcha from Provision, going to the beach and shopping in downtown Fairhope — it’s the best!” In agreement Emily adds, “I love living in a community where the small businesses are so well loved. As it grows, I hope it maintains the small community vibes.”

Marianna Fun Facts “I am half Colombian, fluent in Spanish, and love dancing and singing to my favorite songs, especially to Drake!”

Emily Fun Facts: “When I am not working at Well Head, I work at Evonik and babysit in my free time. I also once offered a kind police officer my Blue Cross Blue Shield card as my car insurance!”

Tyler Matthew McIlwain

As a true creative force, Tyler is the owner of Tyler Matthew Creations, a full-service florist based in West Mobile. As the lead designer, he is revered for his ability to create bespoke floral arrangements that bring his clients visions to life for weddings and special events around the Bay Area.

A self-proclaimed perfectionist, Tyler shares, “I take pride in every detail and treat each wedding and event as if it were my own. I love collaborating with clients to create personalized, elevated events that foster lifelong memories. The best part is witnessing the joy on our client’s faces when their vision comes to life,” he tells us.

Crediting his mother as his greatest influence, Tyler shares, “Raised by a single mom, she taught me the value of hard work. From being a Baker High School band mom to being by my side for every delivery and more, I owe much of my success to her.”

As an in-demand business owner, it wasn’t always easy. “Breaking free from the expectations of others and following my heart has been crucial to my journey. Building my business took time and a lot of hard work. But it was the best decision I’ve ever made. My advice to others considering a similar path is to take the leap — you won’t regret it!” he advises. “Also, despite the delicate nature of floral design, it can feel like a sport at times, but it’s so rewarding. I’m thankfull to my team who help make it all possible. My background as an Eagle Scout and horticulture enthusiast has prepared me well for both my work and the potential challenges of “Survivor,” a favorite television show I applied for!”

While Tyler and his team are busy, giving back to the community that has supported his dream is a priority. “We support the United Cerebral Palsy’s Food and Folly fundraiser annually. The funds raised benefit Camp SMILE, a residential summer camp for children and adults with special needs. Growing up, I spent many summers there as a counselor so it’s such a full circle moment,” Tyler fondly shares.

Fun Fact: “I’m a loyal fan of Foosackly’s and reality shows like “Big Brother”, “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and “Survivor.”

How His Friends Describe Him: “A passionate creative with a thoughtful heart and a tendency to be fashionably late!”.

Ali Merz

Landing on our shores in April, Ali Merz is originally from Louisiana, and is here for an exciting new service. “I’m the lead physical therapist of The Pelvic Floor Institute, a new treatment center in Mobile. After gaining experience in orthopedics and chronic pain, I found my passion for helping patients with pelvic floor dysfunction!” she shares.

Ali received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Azusa Pacific University in California. “From there, I completed courses from world renowned clinicians in chronic pain, pelvic health, visceral (organ) mobilization, and craniosacral therapy. This gave me the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with leading physicians in pelvic pain. We had a telehealth program and I started seeing a patient from Mobile. I flew in to treat her, and she felt the difference immediately. She explained that she had such a hard time finding help for her chronic pain on the Gulf Coast and this turned into an opportunity to start The Pelvic Floor Institute in Mobile! Relocating also meant my husband Austin and I would be closer to family and mid-adventure, I gave birth to my daughter, Audrey!”

While statistics make it clear that The Pelvic Floor Institute is a monumental development in our area, bringing hope to those without any is what Ali treasures most.  “My favorite moments include patient stories of triumph – pain-free intercourse, urination, exercise, etc. Each case is like a puzzle, and I love seeing my patients’ joy as they realize healing is possible! I also love when men realize they too have a pelvic floor!” she beams.

As for their new life in Mobile? “It’s been great, and we feel like we’ve been accepted so fast! Feeling lost in California, we’re grateful for the small-town feeling of this big city, and we’re excited to put some roots down!” she shares.

Fun Facts: “I enjoy clapping along with Steve Harvey on every episode of “Family Feud,” and I frequently quote “The Office,” “Seinfeld,” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.”

Personality Traits: “I’m an open book! My job allows me to be part of a very vulnerable piece of my patient’s lives, so I don’t hide much!”

Michael Gamotis, DMD

A dentist by profession, an avid outdoorsman by passion, and a dedicated family man by heart, Dr. Michael Gamotis effortlessly wears many hats—often quite literally. With days as varied as they are full, he transitions from scrubs to sports coats and camouflage gear to fishing attire regularly.

Michael’s love for the outdoors is rooted in his childhood spent exploring the Carlton swamps. Whether it’s offshore fishing, exploring the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, or alligator hunting, he finds joy in sharing these experiences with others. Taking his 5-year-old son, Huntley, on adventures has become a cherished activity as they navigate mud puddles and catch minnows together. “I encourage people to become true outdoorsmen who care about wildlife management and conservation,” he says.

Michael’s interests also extend to woodworking. Creating unique furniture pieces with exotic woods, he produces one-of-a-kind items. Whether he’s donning his favorite “Dad hat” with his children, Huntley and Ava, spending time with his wife Santana, or transforming his dental practice, Michael’s life is anything but dull.

As the owner of Downtown Dental and Vision, Michael’s goal is simple: to ensure every patient feels relaxed and trusts in the care they receive. From a one-month-old infant with latching difficulties to his 101-year-old grandmother, Yvonne Gamotis, he treats everyone like family. Anything but typical, each children’s room is designed to transport patients to a different world—from a Disney-themed room to a superhero room featuring 3D Wolverine blades. “If I do something, it’s usually 120% or not at all,” Michael asserts.

An advocate for supporting local businesses to ensure our community remains vibrant and successful, Michael shares, “This has always been important to me as my father, Jerry Gamotis, owned Mobile Instrument Co. which was founded by my grandfather in 1959. Today, my sister and brother-in-law are third-generation operators. Plus, I support the Home of Grace for Women and the Women’s Resource Center as contributing to local charities directly benefits local businesses.”

Fun Fact: “I swam when I was younger and was a second-place state champion in backstroke for two years in a row. I was also an Eagle Scout!”

Best Trip: “I caught a 13’4” alligator that now resides at the 5 Rivers Museum and delights thousands of children who visit on school trips.”

There’s always somewhere to go and something meaningful to do,” she shares.

With a proven track record as a revered consultant in the global business world, Christy recently shifted her focus into creating a new and exciting life that will benefit the community she cherishes. “As the proud new owner and CEO of M&J Personal Selections, I am now a wine wholesaler serving business and retail stores in the State of Alabama and North Florida. Representing over 600 options, I spend my days learning, talking, and teaching clients, people, and anyone who will listen about wine. It’s a big undertaking but I love it so far!” she exclaims.

Her passion for wine began over 20 years ago when she and her husband spent time traveling through Italy. Now pairing her wisdom and wine, Christy shares, “Wine should be pure enjoyment. From elevating a culinary experience to learning about the vineyard it comes from, wine allows us the opportunity to pause for and create life’s special occasions. It’s an honor to be part of a family’s memories,” she shares.

Grateful for her wonderful clients, Christy looks forward to building strong relationships that will enable them all to be successful while making customers happy. Christy adds, “We support many local events and organiztions like South Alabama Land Trust, the MS Society of Alabama, and the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation with a dollar donation for every bottle of our Sea Turtle wines sold. Contributing to job growth and the success of my home area is a dream come true!”

Jausta Hermesch

Originally from Fishers, IN., Jausta Hermesch and her three children relocated to the Bay Area following her husband, Brendan, who has served in the United States Coast Guard for the past 19 years and is now stationed in Mobile.

Working as a Licensed Esthetician for Dr. Kimberly Donnellan at USA Health Facial Plastics, her role involves performing various cosmetic services such as hydrafacials, chemical peels, microneedling, and laser treatments. Jausta also educates clients about medical-grade skincare products from brands like Skinceuticals, Skinbetter Science, Revision Skincare, and EltaMD. “This industry is so rewarding. I find so much joy in witnessing the positive transformations in my clients’ skin and confidence,” she shares. “Building client relationships is one of my favorite things about being an esthetician, I love hearing their life stories and all about their families.”

Interested in the cosmetic industry for years, her current career path began after being a stay-at-home mom. “Once all three of my babies were in school, I decided to pursue a career as a Medical Esthetician. I wanted my kids to see me do hard things.” Her parent’s teachings on perseverance have been a significant influence, helping her stay motivated through challenges. “Persevere through it, never give up. It will be worth it,” she advises.

Happy to call the Bay Area home, Jausta praises the southern charm, hospitality, and cuisine. “I discovered cheese grits here. Shrimp and grits is a favorite dish of mine! And, being from the Midwest, I’m grateful to live near the ocean. I didn’t see the ocean until I was 14 years old, so I’m thankful my children have this experience.”

Those who know Jausta best describe her as selfless, a great mother, wife, sister, and friend, with a love for reading and enjoying chips and queso. Her husband, Brendan, stands out as her greatest supporter, always challenging her to be her best and contributing to the beautiful life they have built together.

Top Tip: “Wear your sunscreen! Using sunscreen regularly helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and aging.”

Fun Fact: “My name is very unique, so when I introduce myself, I like to tell people that my name is “Jausta like Pasta”. It usually makes them giggle, but they’ll never forget my name!”

Dolly Stokes

At just 60-years-young, Dolly Stokes found fitness after a career as a paralegal. She taught aerobics in the ‘80s, was a master trainer for FiTOUR, completed over 30 fitness specialization courses that include nutrition, myofascial release, yoga, and Pilates, and so much more that she could fill a book.

Today, Dolly and her husband Jeff (the love of her life), own and operate downtown Fairhope’s, StokesMethod. “After Hurricane Katrina damaged where I trained most of my clients, one of them asked if I would do a two-week bootcamp for her and two friends.  Afterwards, they all looked amazing and went to a party in Fairhope.  I began to get calls the very next morning! With a thriving studio, I added Pilates Reformer and my clients and I loved it!  In all my years of training, I had never seen programming that created such drastic transformation in health and appearance,” she beams.

However, in 2011, Dolly was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 47. “When first diagnosed, my husband would have to help me walk up the stairs and to get ready for bed. With a new plaque on my occipital lobe, I was very frightened I’d lose my eyesight, so I decided to go on a juice with plant-based protein diet for 45-days. At my follow-up, the lesion was barely visible, and my astonished neurologist said it had to be due to the strict diet! I was able to stop disease modifying therapy/medicine (DMT) in 2022, and my MRIs continue to be stable. I have a very high-level of function for someone who is 60 and an even higher for someone with MS!” Dolly shares.

Described as sarcastically kind and faithful, Dolly adds, “I support The Tanner Foundation for Neurological Diseases founded by my neurologist, Dr. Emily Riser, to provide people with Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and ALS with educational opportunities and more. My hope is that my example will inspire others to embrace a healthy lifestyle centered around movement, healthy nutrition, and stress management.”

Robert & DeAnna Ladner

As the busy parents of Chloe, Anastasia, Gabriel, Jacqueline, and Zane, Robert and DeAnna share the philosophy that failure is not an option whether it’s business or a family matter. Both from Mobile, this fun-loving power couple spends a lot of time on the ball field with their children.

While they are known to work long hours, Robert and DeAnna chose careers they love in industries that allow flexibility. “We offer comprehensive financial services through our company, Ladner Wealth Strategist, and we’re also Senior Associates with The Miliare Group. Using advanced financial strategies from The Miliare Group and World Financial Group, we help people reach goals they never thought possible which is incredibly rewarding! It’s also a plus that we can work from home or while on vacation anywhere in the world!” Robert shares.

And if her schedule wasn’t packed enough, DeAnna decided to become a realtor, too. “I’m with Realty Executives Bay Group and it allows me to provide even more services to our clientele. From helping clients buy and sell investment properties and dream homes, I love sharing market trends, pricing strategies, and more, to get the job done!” she exclaims.

As for working together, DeAnna adds, “We’re dedicated and determined. Encompassing these traits has allowed us to help others and to reach our goals, too. Describing each other, DeAnna says, “Robert is a people magnet! And while he’s a leader and gives the best advice, most would be surprised that he’s introverted at times!” Flipping the script, Robert teases, “DeAnna comes across as fierce when she first meets people. However, she’s actually very silly and a cry baby!”

Robert and DeAnna both overcame adversity at a young age. “We always believed we’d be successful because of the hardships we experienced. They made us who we are today,” DeAnna explains. As for the future? “There’s a lot we haven’t experienced with our children yet as we’re always at their sporting events, but we know they will not be young forever so we’re working on it!” Robert confesses.  In terms of the areas grown, DeAnna concludes with, “Sharing our southern hospitality is the best as I’m always told it isn’t the norm in other places. All newbies love it!”

Alice Carey

A recent University of Alabama Summa Cum Laude graduate, Alice Anne Carey will soon be attending The UAB Heersink School of Medicine to pursue her MD/MBA. Nominated by Mobile Carnival Association’s 2024 Queen Elizabeth Helmsing, Alice shares, “As a pre-med student, I loved learning from people from unique walks of life.”

Giving back to the community she holds dear is a priority. “While in college, I tutored at a local elementary school which changed my life as many of the children just needed someone to believe in them. Also, I planned a fundraiser to help improve the disparities in healthcare in rural Alabama. An issue I’m passionate about, I will use that experience to help me find ways to help in the future.”

Hailing from a large Mobile family, Alice loves the Bay Area. “Close to my cousins, I cherish the memories I’ve made. Also, Mardi Gras brings back great memories of sitting on my dad’s shoulders at parades and screaming ‘Throw me something Mister!’ I’ll never forget walking to Carpe Diem after school for Dreamsicles. As I got older, I spent a lot of time studying there and many projects were done on that porch!”

Alice spent the previous two summers as a nanny for two boys in New York City. “The experience changed my life, and the family was incredible!” she shares. With admiration for her sister, Alice adds, “She inspires me as she never takes anything too seriously and reminds me to enjoy the moments!”

Listing summer as her favorite season due to the sunsets, boat rides, and wharf gatherings, Alice loves the small-town feel and the big-city amenities the Bay Area offers. “As the community continues to grow, I hope Mobile will be able to create more job opportunities and more large-scale entertainment!”

Crystal Wachtel

Born in Alabama, Crystal Wachtel was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and returned in 2008 to pursue a degree in Biomedical Science at Auburn University. Starting her career in orthopedics, she quickly realized that was not the route for her. “I felt most of the treatments lead to drugs or surgeries. Drawn to a more holistic approach, I found it in chiropractic!” A natural solution, chiropractors treat conditions that affect the nervous and musculoskeletal systems often associated with headaches and back, neck, and muscle pain through adjustments.

From there, she received a Doctorate in Chiropractic. “After graduation, I visited a practice on the Eastern Shore and fell in love with the family practice and the community! I worked as an associate doctor for four years and recently opened my own practice, Beyond Chiropractic, in downtown Daphne. I love being a part of this beautiful town.” she tells us.

With a focus on preventative care and overall family wellness, Crystal adds, “I am very passionate about prenatal and pediatric care. I strive to educate my families on the importance of understanding their health and knowing their options when it comes to treatments. As a provider, I also think it’s vital to get to the root cause of each patient’s issues, and not just mask the symptoms or force a certain solution.”

Driven by her passion and leading by example, Crystal shares, “I want to truly thrive in my life, and I want my patients to thrive in theirs as well. I take my holistic lifestyle very seriously. From water and air filters to clean beauty products and food, non- toxic cleaning supplies, and more, I am intentional with my personal health and love to share this with my patients!”

Bay Living: “The sunsets are always beautiful and peaceful, so I try to get out on the water as much as possible!”

Crystals Influencers: “I have taken many roads to get where I am today. My parents, John and Judy, have been there every step of the way, and I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without them.”

Aerielle Reese, a Spanish Fort native, is currently a senior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where she is majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Public Health, all while being on the Pre-Medicine track. Her days are a meticulous balance between her rigorous academic pursuits and her work as an infusion technician at Rheumatology Associates in Mountain Brook, AL. Her responsibilities are extensive, involving the preparation of patients for infusions, coordinating schedules, preparing IV fluids and medication injections, and fostering meaningful relationships with the patients. Her role is also deeply interpersonal. “Many of the patients I interact with are older and I really enjoy hearing their stories and seeing pictures of their grandchildren.  These are some of the most meaningful moments in my workday,” she fondly shares.

Aerielle is a former court member and was nominated by 2024 MAMGA Queen Taylor Nicks for her lifelong goal of becoming a physician. Aerielle is inspired by her mother’s relationships with her own patients, and she aims to provide the care and compassion she has witnessed firsthand.

Aerielle is also deeply involved in her community. As a volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham, AL, she mentors a high school sophomore, introducing her to new experiences and cultures. “We love shopping, trying new foods, and crafting,” she tells us.

Aerielle attributes much of her positive outlook to Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell, a teacher at St. Paul’s Episcopal School. “When my mom was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, it was my sister and I’s first time being without her and Mrs. Elizabeth was always there to make sure we were okay and made us feel like a part of her family,” she recalls. “I have always said that I have a bunch of ‘St. Paul’s moms,’ and she is one of them!”

Aerielle lists Felix’s on the Causeway as a family favorite and as the Bay Area continues to grow, she hopes for the expansion of community, education, and opportunities.

As the owner and President of Bay Area Events AL LLC, based out of Baldwin County, Amanda plays a pivotal role in connecting the community. Her business is dedicated to organizing events that bring together local small businesses, organizations, nonprofits, and residents. A typical day involves networking, marketing, and ensuring her events offer maximum exposure for participants. “After participating in a few markets in the area, I realized there was a great need to create impactful opportunities for local small businesses and organizations to engage with the community,” she explains.

Amanda’s passion for her work is matched by her dedication to her family. She is the mother of five children: Trevor, Scarlett, Ashley, Lizzie, and Trent. Most of her professional duties are carried out from home, where she is assisted by her youngest child, Trevor. “Trevor, who is one, spends all day with me, ensuring ample breaks to play and snuggle,” Amanda shares.

Family has always been a driving force in Amanda’s life. Her great grandparents inspired her with their love for learning and adventure, while her grandparents and father instilled in her a commitment to giving 110% in all pursuits. Amanda’s husband, Turner, has been a tremendous source of support and encouragement, too.

Animal welfare also holds a special place in Amanda’s heart, a passion nurtured by her Godmother from a young age. She’s brought home numerous strays over the years. This compassion extends to her aspirations for the community, as she is in the process of establishing Hunter’s Heart Foundation. Named in honor of her late father, the foundation aims to support local organizations and individuals through awareness and funding initiatives.

Looking ahead, Amanda hopes the Bay Area will maintain its unique values and close-knit feel despite its rapid growth. She believes that the community’s desirability stems from the contributions of its residents and aims to preserve the qualities that make the Bay Area special.

Described as ambitious, Ciara provides top-notch facials, dermaplaning, microneedling, laser hair removal, and spray tan services. “I recently parlayed my experience tending bar and my fascination with mixology to start an upscale event bartending company, High Glass, because every event is better with a bar tender and custom cocktails!” Ciara explains.

With a love for building relationships, Ciara now has the best of both worlds. “Skincare and cocktail creating aren’t that different! It’s so satisfying to help clients gain confidence and reach their aesthetic goals. And bartending is also about elevating an experience and ensuring each client is happy,” she shares.

Cecily & Carl Harper

A true power couple, Cecily and Carl Harper’s love story began over 20 years ago in middle school. Starting with a dollar bill at a snack bar, it blossomed into a life filled with love and purpose. “I was short one dollar and Carl gave it to me, along with his phone number,” Cecily recalls. “I spent the dollar but kept his phone number. I got two snacks that day—my nachos and my husband!” Now, as parents to five boys—Zachary (14), Victor (10), Isaiah (9), Ian (4), and Langston (1), they’re also teammates at work.

Carl is the co-owner and vice-president of Harper Technologies in downtown Mobile, and manages administrative duties, client acquisition, and resource management, all while assisting clients with their IT needs. Cecily handles the company’s public relations and is grateful for the flexible hours that allow her to balance her role as a hands-on mother.

For Carl, the most rewarding aspect of his work is solving complex problems and helping others. “My siblings and I were raised to be strong critical thinkers and self-sufficient “do it yourselfers.” We were encouraged to venture out into new experiences through travel, community service, and entrepreneurship; and I like to think it was all instrumental in where we’ve landed today. There is a deeply rooted passion for excelling in our endeavors, while uplifting those around us in business and community.”

In terms of career satisfaction, “Cecily shares, “What I love most about my work is that our children, while they don’t fully understand it now, get to see their family work and succeed together. I’m intentional about pouring seeds (lessons, characteristics, values) into my children that will bloom now and in the future.”

Harper Technologies is deeply involved in the community, from sponsoring t-ball teams to participating in STEAM-related school events. Outside the office, Cecily and Carl volunteer with non-profit organizations including Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Gulf Coast, Housing First, and Fuse Project. Josiah Chester

Mobile’s Josiah Chester is not only kind, hip and stylish, he has more grit and determination than most. “I grew up in the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home where my parents’ raised kids from the ages of six to 18 that were orphaned or abused. They took care of nearly 150 kids in eight years. It was a monumental time and I’m confident that sacrifice saved many children’s lives,” he tells us.

First in his family to graduate college, Josiah recently earned a degree in business administration while working in the banking industry. Now, Josiah is enjoying life as the executive coordinator for 7 Studios in downtown Mobile. “We offer a state-of-the-art space for podcasts, photography and videography, and professional event hosting. I’m responsible for developing and coordinating opportunities for entrepreneurs and visionaries. It’s super exciting to be part of this cultural exchange,” he explains.

As for who has impacted his life, Josiah shares, “Terry Harbin is the Regional President for BankPlus, an entrepreneur, a servant at Dayspring Baptist Church, a board member of the University of Mobile, and a board advisor for the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. I strive to be this involved and when I feel overwhelmed, I remind myself of his professionalism and how he creates opportunities for every person he connects with.”

Josiah also volunteers at Ransom Recycling, an employment social enterprise program developed by Ransom Ministries, where he lends his support to help people stabilize their lives. “These employees are mentored and work in an entry-level position recycling electronics. I teach them financial wellness, and it’s a blessing to see the growth of each employee,” he says.

Living downtown, Josiah adds, “Rooster’s has the best tacos in the area, their salsa bar seals the deal! And as a proud member of Gen-Z, we also have the best thrift stores. I love Elsewhere, a fantastic downtown vintage shop. As the Bay Area grows, I hope the diverse cultures and traditions continue to come together!”

Mid journey, Ashley was devastated when her mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. “Phranky told me to put my family first and my mom encouraged me to keep going. So, with their help and God’s grace, we powered through. I look back and think wow, we did it! Jessica Price

A Mobile, AL, native, Jessica Price is a master hair and makeup artist whose brushes grace the Bay’s most influential brides, debutants, and more. Understanding the transformative power of professional hair and makeup, Jessica explains, “I perform free haircuts for people who donate their hair to help others facing hair loss due to cancer and alopecia. I consider this an honor as it’s not fair to charge someone for a cut when they’ve grown their hair for a few years so they can donate enough to create a wig for another person.”

Jessica can be found at Mobile’s Primp Lash & Beauty, and prides herself on approaching her work with an open heart. “I’ve formed many meaningful friendships with my clients over the years. People feel vulnerable in a hair and makeup chair, so my job consists of giving a lot of therapy! I witness a lot of ups and downs, but mostly ups!” she tells us.

Married to Sean, the couple and their son Archer have lived abroad but prefer the Bay Area. “The thriving local art community is one of my favorite aspects of living in this area. And, of course, Mardi Gras and all the fanfare. From the beautiful gowns to the imaginative floats, it’s unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere. Being a small part of it by providing glam services for the royals and court members is something I cherish. Plus, it’s so much fun to be behind-the-scenes!”

Described as a creative force, Jessica lists her husband as a positive influence in her life. “Also, Jackie Schatt at Peak Pilates is such an inspiration. She’s 62-years-young and has the body of a goddess!” Jessica shares.

We fought for the use of enhanced crash protection in automobiles, argued for drug manufacturers to disclose adverse side effects and for better safety devices in factories, and more. I take great pride in representing the average folks in what is essentially a contest between David and Goliath!” he explains.

As for why he left? “Now raising a family, I’ve shifted gears and thoroughly enjoy our small-town. No traffic, crime, crowds, gangs, or air pollution! l love it here! It’s green and lush, the people are nice, the ocean is nearby, and the pace is slow and easy — it’s wonderful!” Niall exclaims.

Never idle, Niall recently jumped back into law and formed a partnership with Vince Kilborn to create Kilborn & Yamane in Montrose. “We represent consumers, employees, families, and other average folks that have been victims of a major injustice. As trial lawyers, we love trying cases and Vince is hands-down the best lawyer I’ve ever had the privilege to know,” Niall shares.

Listing his parents as role models for the sacrifices they made, Niall shares, “They instilled a rock-solid work ethic in me that has carried me my whole life,” In addition to supporting local fundraisers, Niall hopes the growth of our community continues in a planned and balanced fashion. “The Bay Area is special, and it deserves to be preserved for future generations!”
