MALLORY & SERGIO

May 20, 2023

As a talented graphic designer that worked with Access, we can attest to the fact that there’s not many people Mallory Godwin doesn’t know in Mobile. With too many local relatives to count, we laughed as every office story character was ultimately related to Mallory. Always a breath of fresh air, including Mallory in our wedding special was an easy decision.

Hailing from Cuernavaca, Mexico, Sergio Muris is a master at making the perfect cocktail and serves them up at The Haberdasher downtown. As for how they met, Mallory shares, “We kept running into each other and I just knew there was something special about him. He took me on a day date to Orange beach and that’s when I realized he was the one. He truly makes life fun every day, and I love his lighthearted spirit.”

Recognizing Mallory’s strengths, Sergio adds, “In addition to being so sweet and caring, I knew Mallory was for me because she was so straightforward about what she wanted in a relationship. Our personalities are very different, so we balance each other out.”

Naturally Mallory and Sergio spend a lot of time in Mexico and while on a visit for her 30th birthday, Sergio asked Mallory for her hand in marriage. “We picked out rings months before our trip to Mexico. But to my surprise, he proposed after my birthday dinner on a beautiful balcony,” Mallory fondly recalls.

A true Mobilian, Mallory wanted to incorporate southern traditions and their favorite things into their wedding theme. “I kept referencing “garden party” to bring my vision to life. I designed the invitation envelope liner with my favorite flowers and illustrations of our cats. I included hydrangeas because they bloomed in my parent’s backyard and remind me of home. Ron Barrett, our florist, mixed gold lanterns with garden roses to add something special to the tables,” Mallory explains.

As for the fun, Mallory shares, “Ensuring our guests enjoyed great food and drinks was a top priority. Bay Gourmet was phenomenal — guests called my parents the next day to say how great the food was! My favorite dishes were the shrimp & grits, crawfish mac & cheese and the beignet fries, our late-night snack. I also work for the Fairhope Brewing Company, and they brewed a pink lemonade hard seltzer for the reception.”

Ticking the traditional boxes, Mallory continues, “I chose the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion as our venue because I wanted to share the beauty of Mobile’s historic homes, especially since Sergio’s family was coming from Mexico. I included my parents and grandmother by using their wedding silver and linens as well. Our good friend DJ Dalton Muse played amazing music and it was so special to have him as part of our day.”

Shopping at Fairhope’s Bliss Bridal, she can easily recall when she found her gown. “Once I saw the slit, I knew it was the one. It was classic with a twist! I also wore my late Grandmother Kinta’s pearl bracelet, and my veil was borrowed from my Aunt Karen. It meant a lot to have those sentimental family items on my wedding day,”

Mallory’s childhood friend, Ally Patterson, her sister-in-law, Sarah Townsley, and her brothers, Sandy and Jay Godwin, served as the couple’s wedding party. “They made sure to celebrate and make me feel special at the pre-wedding parties and on the big day! We all bonded in the photobooth taking silly photos that I still have all over our house. Seeing our friends and family meet, connect and have a great time made me so happy,” Mallory recalls.

The newlyweds enjoyed a honeymoon in Acapulco, Mexico. “We’ve stayed at the Las Brisas Hotel and wanted to return for our honeymoon. Our room had a pool that overlooked the Bay where we enjoyed cocktails and sunsets. Currently living in Mobile, we still enjoy each other, but more so at the pool than the beach these days!”
