WELCOMING DR. HOLLIS

Meet Alison (Ali) Hollis, D.O., the newest addition to the Fairhope Gynecology and Obstetrics (FGO) team. Affiliated with Thomas Hospital, part of the Infirmary Health System, Dr. Hollis brings her expertise and passion for women’s health to the charming coastal town of Fairhope. Married to engineer husband, Trent Hollis, since July 2017, the couple is excited to make Fairhope their home and Dr. Hollis is eager to meet her new patients.

Originally hailing from Destin, FL., Dr. Hollis’ journey to becoming a doctor started during her undergraduate years at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Drawn to a career where she could directly help people, her interest in science and anatomy pointed her towards medicine. “I will admit at the age of 18, I really was unable to comprehend that this journey would consume the next 12 years of my life. But after completing residency and finally beginning practice, I can say it was fully worth it,” she tells us. Her passion for obstetrics and gynecology grew stronger during her time at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (ACOM) and her four-year OBGYN residency in Chattanooga, TN. “As I began searching for a practice to join after completing residency, my husband and I took a trip to Fairhope and fell in love with the quaint, Bay life and small town charm. A perk also was that my family now lives in Pensacola and Trent’s are somewhat close as well in the Birmingham area.”

As a new OB/GYN provider at FGO, Dr. Hollis will offer a full spectrum of both OB and GYN care to her patients starting September 1st. What attracted her to join the practice was not just the quaint, bay life of Fairhope but also the warm welcome she received from FGO. “FGO was incredibly welcoming and offered all the support a new graduate needs in a practice—a range of experience, an established patient base, and most importantly, each partner all seemed to love their job,” Dr. Hollis recalls. “The work-life balance was something I was really drawn to, and FGO has a great formula for this.”

Dr. Hollis has a particular interest in high-risk obstetrics and complex OB care, as well as GYN surgery, including laparoscopy, vaginal, and robotic surgery. “After seeing my first delivery and my first C section in medical school, I was truly in awe, and I knew that if I was going to be waking up at 2AM on call in the middle of the night, this was what I wanted it to be for,” she proudly states. But what truly drew her to the field was the patient-physician relationship she has the opportunity to develop. “Our field is very unique given how personal, emotional, and sensitive our interactions with our patients can be,” says Dr. Hollis. “Developing a patient’s trust is something I hope to do with every one of my patients, and that they feel listened to and understood. As a provider, you have the opportunity to be there on someone’s best day, or what may be their worst as they walk through the heartache of a miscarriage.”

“Ali will surely be another great addition to the FGO family in serving the contemporary needs of women’s healthcare in our region. As recent chief resident at UT- Chattanooga, she adds to the comprehensive experience within our clinic that now represents four major training institutions. And while it may be impossible to replace our chairman emeritus, Dr. Richard Roh, we welcome home this compassionate University of Alabama alumna to the Gulf Coast with open arms!”

Dr. Hollis comes with an impressive resume of awards and accolades including the Alper Humanitarian Award (2023) and the Maternal Fetal Medicine Department Award (2022-2023). Dr. Hollis won these awards due to her positive attitude, upbeat energy, ability to keep a clear focus and communicate, and her ability to listen to her patients. On receiving these awards Dr. Hollis says, “I was humbled to receive such an award and aim to bring this energy to my patients here as well.”

As a young, female physician, Dr. Hollis sometimes feels the pressure to establish her credibility in the medical field, but hopes her patients see her age in a relatable and connectable way. “Even if I haven’t directly experienced what they are walking through, the odds are good I have a similar experience or know someone else who has,” she reassures us. But the biggest reason to trust Dr. Hollis with your health is her fierce passion for advocating for women’s healthy, both physical and emotional. “I encourage all patients to ask questions and keep learning about their health. One of the most amazing things about life is how much our physical bodies are able to adapt and change over a lifetime. I think some of these changes can be very frustrating at times to people, and it’s ok to acknowledge those concerns,” she says. “Working together to shift our perspective and figure out solutions to things like period irregularities, weight fluctuations, acne, whatever it may be- I enjoy helping women achieve their goals.”

Dr. Hollis will be joining a team of six full-time practicing OB/GYNs at FGO. She is excited to learn from her experienced partners while also bringing fresh insights from her recent training. The team’s collaborative approach ensures that patients receive evidence-based care tailored to their specific needs. “It has been very clear to me that as OB/GYN providers we do not practice solely in a vacuum, we work together to bring our patients evidence-based care,” she tells us.

Apart from her medical career, Dr. Hollis and her husband, Trent, are enthusiastic about their life outside of work. They enjoy taking their Australian Shepherd on long walks and share a love for cooking and hosting dinner parties with friends. Moving to Fairhope, they are looking forward to exploring all the coastal activities the area has to offer, from the beaches of Gulf Shores to the warm, welcoming community of Fairhope.

Dr. Alison Hollis is well prepared to serve the women of Fairhope and the surrounding communities. Her dedication to empowering women to take control of their health and her compassionate bedside manner make her a valuable addition to Fairhope Gynecology and Obstetrics. Patients seeking OB or GYN care can begin scheduling appointments with Dr. Hollis, and they can expect exceptional care from a physician who truly values the patient-physician relationship.
